SOCM is a non-profit Tennessee grassroots organization working state-wide for social, environmental and economic justice in areas such as sustainable forestry, clear cutting, strip mining, mountain top removal, AML, toxic issues, aerial spraying, tax reform, voter rights and dismantling racism.
Members also work on many other issues at the local level.

With the work of activist members and the financial support of other interested individuals throughout the state of Tennessee and across the nation, SOCM works to protect the land and air by promoting responsible business practices in the areas of sustainable forestry, clear cutting, strip mining, deep mining, aerial spraying, air quality and water quality.
Social justice work focuses on economic justice for all income levels, plus dismantling racism in all of its forms, from voter rights to taxation issues.

This work often means that new laws or regulations must be passed, and SOCM members actively work on the local, State and National level, testifying at hearings and lobbying legislators.
