2010 Community Unity Night Questions Public Chapter No. 1112

This year, the Bedford Co. Chapter again hosted Community Unity Night, Nov.12, another opportunity to gather together in appreciation and support of growing diversity in the area. Community members provided an informational event focused on learning more about Public Chapter No. 1112, a new law that requires all jailers to determine the immigration status of every person arrested for any period. Panelists addressed concern, confusion, and questions and asked: Is this law a new civil rights issue?

The event was a success, bringing out nearly 85 people who listened intently to discussion provided by a variety of panel experts. The Chapter plans to continue providing education regarding Public Chapter No. 1112.
