Anti-Racism Transformation Team

The Anti-Racism Transformation Team (ARTT) was formed as an internal committee to help SOCM look at the way institutional racism impacts all of us. SOCM staff and many of its members have had training in dismantling racism, originally through the Peace Development Fund’s Exchange Project, later through Virginia Organizing Project, and more recently in SOCM's own trainings. These workshops made training available to all of our members as well as to friends and neighbors who wished to participate.

As a result of these trainings a group of SOCM members took further intensive training and formed a SOCM anti-racism team, which will work with all parts of SOCM to assist in moving ever closer to SOCM's stated goal of becoming a fully diverse, truly anti-racist organization.

In January 2003 SOCM members who had attended Dismantling Racism Workshops formed the Social Progress Committee to work on social justice issues.
