Coal Ash Citizen's Hearing

In light of the largest coal ash disaster in our nation’s history, the 2008 TVA spill, and the plans to place coal ash in an abandoned coal mine on top of Smith Mountain, EPA still forgot us!! What do we do? Let them know that we are still here, still suffering from environmental injustices and have our own hearing on the matter.

The Environmental Protection Agency has announced a series of seven hearings regarding the ongoing coal combustion residuals rulemaking process. Unfortunately, not one of these hearings is within a reasonable distance of Kingston, Tennessee, let alone, Tennessee in general.

Many SOCM members and Tennesseans know firsthand the realities of coal ash. Thus, SOCM, along with a number of other Tennessee groups, is hosting a Citizen’s hearing.

The hearing will be held at 5:30pm in the Student Lounge of the Roane State Community College. The College is located at 276 Patton Lane, Harriman, Tennessee 37748.
