$18M in private school tuition subsidies go to Hamilton County students

Meghan Gilbert, the Hamilton County co-lead for the advocacy group Public School Strong, said the amount of public funding going to students attending private schools shows where the state's priorities are.

"With our public schools being a public good, we want to ensure that they remain funded and supported," she said by phone. "It is just unfortunate to see that our priorities are putting that money into these private school programs that are not showing they're performing and are not having to be accountable when our public schools are going underfunded and our teachers are not getting their increases and we're having to cut positions and make it work with less money."
